Should we create more socially mixed residential areas, where rich people live next to poor people, instead of in separate communities?

In order to answer this question, we must understand first what attributes make a person set the place where they would like to live. It´s natural that charming neighborhoods with easy mobility and commerce area creates the best atmosphere to live, but comfort means high prices of real estate. Looking at this economic point, people will always seek the best cost benefit and this in itself ends up creating a division between social classes. In Brazil, it seems to be very normal this abysm between social classes, but how can we create more socially mixed residential areas?
Faced this issue, what we can think at first is that the creation of an mixed area would be practically impossible, and rich people will never accepted to live close with poor people. However, the society evolution show us big changes. In our days, the big families with 5 children are no longer a reality. I know many friends who do not even though about having kids or even get married. Big spaces generate a great effort for maintain and without a third support, it may be impossible to take care of your own house.
What do people really want today? The word is convenience! It doesn´t matter if my neighbor attends to the same college as me or even the same restaurants. What really matters is if the place promotes comfort to me, it´s nice and besides I can pay for it. From my point of view, the greatest work that will come it will be from our architects, who instead of working for a small population creation mansions, should invest in new ideas to reshape our city´s population in a more urbanism one.
The architectural design that pleases rich and poor people, commerce area that allows to go shopping without need a car, closer to hospitals, parks that incentive the practice of sport and many other ideas are the solution to recreate our neighborhoods to settler all the social classes. There is no more reason to differentiation residential areas in our days and mixed communities is becoming more and more an reality for the next generations. The process have been started and there is no coming back.

  2. I understand your point of view and agree in part. But nowadays I see a lot more condominiuns with hight walls coming up day by day. The impression is that the social gulf only increases, leaving the less favored populations to occupy the few remaining places between one condominium and another. <>
